BROAD GAUGE

A rail track gauge that is more than 4 ft 8.5 in (1.435 m) wide. The distinction of often made that wide gauge is slightly greater but broad gauge is substantially greater than 4 ft. 8.5 in. (TRB)

BROADBAND

A high-capacity communications circuit/path. It usually implies a speed greater than 1.544Mbps.

BROKERAGE MODEL

A means to a coordinated transportation system in which administrative functions are handled by a contracted broker while the actual operation of vehicles is left to subcontracted transportation providers. (APTA)

BROKERED SYSTEM

A method of providing transportation where riders are matched with a variety of transportation providers through the use of central dispatching and administrative facilities. In most cases, the broker contracts with other entities to operate vehicles.
