GALLERY CAR

A bilevel rail car that has seating and access aisles on a second level along each side of an open well. Ticket of passengers on the second level can be inspected or collected from the lower level. (TRB)

GANN EXPENDITURE LIMIT

Named after former Assemblyman Paul Gann, an anti-tax crusader, who died 9/11/89. He teamed up with Howard Jarvis to enact tax limitations, as specified in Proposition 13.

GAP SECTION

A break or distance between contact rail sections which can be bridged by vehicle collector shoes.

GAP TRAIN

Extra train stored in an auxiliary track in case of a service disruption.

GARAGE

In bus systems, the location in which buses are stored and serviced and where operators report for work and receive supplies and assignments. It is also sometime known as a depot or barn. (TRB)

GAS TURBINE ENGINE

An internal combustion engine in which the hot compressed gases of combustion drive a turbine. (TRB)
