INCENTIVE CONTRACT

A fixed-price or cost-reimbursement type contract which provides for relating the amount of profit or fee payable under the contract with the contractor’s performance in order to obtain specific procurement objectives.

INCENTIVE-DISINCENTIVE PROVISION

A pay adjustment schedule that functions to motivate the contractor to provide a high level of quality.

INCIDENT

Any event or occurrence that did or could have resulted a in bus or rail accident, injury, fatality, property damage, environmental release, near miss, endangerment, or adverse reaction.

INCLINED PLANE RAILWAY

A special type of tramway vehicle modified to run on rails so that its passenger seats remain horizontal while its undercarriage is angled parallel to the slope. It is used for steep gradients. (TRB)

The net change in dollar costs that is directly attributable to a given decision or proposal when compared with some other alternative (including the existing situation or the do-nothing alternative). (TRB)

INCREMENTAL TRIP

A trip assignment technique that approximates flow equilibrium by loading fixed increments of traffic and adjusting link speeds to reflect relationships of speed, volume, and density. Minimum time paths are calculated after each incremental assignment. (TRB)
