1972: The Southern California Rapid Transit District informs the federal Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMTA) that it itends to file a formal application for a demonstration grant to provide funds for the design and constrution of a People Mover system in downtown Los Angeles.
The 1.7-mile proposed system of double guideways would have four stations and cost $35-40 million.
