August 6: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

2004:  Metro introduces the new “CompoBus” to the public.  This lightweight, 45-foot vehicle is resistant to collision and corrosion damage, reduces maitenance and fuel costs, and enhances safety by using power disc brakes.

The CompoBus carries 16 percent more passengers than conventional buses.  100 are expected to be in service by June 2005.

2009:  Google is now offering Metro bus and rail as an alternative form of transportation on Google Maps.

Users benefit from mapping services in twelve different languages.  The development follows Metro making transportation-related data available to the public via its developer site.
