February 17: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

1876:  The Los Angeles and Aliso Avenue Street Railroad Company incorporates.  It is later deeded to Central Railway Company on October 20, 1883.

 

1971:  California Assembly Bill AB544 is introduced in the State Legislature.

The measure seeks to extend California’s 5% sales tax to purchases of gasoline, with the stipulation that 80% of the new revenues be used for local development of public transit facilities and services throughout the state.
