January 19: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

1975:  Southern California Rapid Transit District launches nine new bus lines which begin service in South Los Angeles, part of a South-Central grid known as “Streetway System 321.”

Plans call for a second phase to be completed in March, creating a system allowing residents to walk to a bus line within three blocks of their home and board a bus within 20 minutes.
