2012: The Martin Luther King Jr. Transit Center opens in Compton.
The project is a joint partnership of the City of Compton and the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The multi-modal transit center welcomes Blue Line commuters into the “New Compton.”
The new 10,000 square foot building is a significant tangible enhancement as it will enable the expansion nad efficiency of transit services and future mixed-use development opportunities in Downtown Compton and along the Metro Blue Line.
It features a lush green, beautifully landscaped plaza area, new roadways and bus bays, drought-resistant planting and pedestrian-scaled lighting that illuminates the new 10,000 square foot building and transit center area.
Los Angeles County Supervisor for the 2nd District and Metro Board Member Mark Ridley-Thomas presides over the ribbon-cutting.
He is joined by Compton Mayor Eric J. Perrodin; City of Compton Council Members Janna Zurita, Lillie Dobson, Yvonne Arceneaux and Dr. Willie O. District; 52nd District Assemblymember Isadore Hall III; U.S. Congresswoman Laura Richardson’s 37th Congressional District Representative and other Metro executives.
