March 18: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

1996:  The 25×80-foot “City of Dreams / River of History” mural is completed at the Union Station East Portal.

Richard Wyatt, one of Los Angeles’ most important muralists, worked with Paul Diez and May Sun on the iconic multi-media installation that evokes the varied culture of the Los Angeles River through history.

2007:  Foothill Transit debuts its new Silver Streak bus line from the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys into Downtown Los Angeles.

The 600-foot buses use the carpool lane of the San Bernardino Freeway and El Monte Busway, and are equipped with free WiFi service.
