September 21: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

2016:  The Metro Board of Directors approves an $82 million contract to double the number of private security guards to patrol the transit system and its facilities.

Metro officials state that the security guards are also expected to serve as the eyes and ears for law enforcement.  They new private security guards will join Metro’s own security guards and law enforcement officers in providing security throughout the system.
