March 5: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

1911: Los Angeles Railway begins Main Street line extension from Garvanza to Eagle Rock Park.

Eagle Rock Park had been acquired by Howard Huntington for the purpose of giving the people free picnicking grounds.

Eagle Rock is incorporated in 1911, but later annexed by the City of Los Angeles in 1923 due to inadequate water supply.

2009: The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and its retiring CEO Roger Snoble welcome Orange County Transportation Authority leader Art Leahy to become Metro’s new CEO.

The two executives join Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Board Members at a news conference in front of Metro Headquarters. Leahy had previously worked for the Southern California Rapid Transit District, a predecessor agency to Metro.
