April 17: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

1948:  Actress Virginia Mayo, Los Angeles Mayor Fletcher E. Bowron, and other dignitaries launch North Figueroa Motor Coach Line Number 25.

The new bus service connects the communities of Eagle Rock, Garvanza, York Junction, Highland Park and Lincoln Heights with downtown Los Angeles.

1990:  Southern California Rapid Transit District Board President Gordana Swanson and Southern California Gas Company Chairman Dick Farman join Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley to unveil the first of ten compressed natural gas (CNGT) buses to be placed into service on April 23.

 

 

The natural gas bus enginers are among the first in the nation to be designed and built to run on CNG.
