1975:  The El Monte Busway opens.

Although seven miles of the system began operations in July 1973, the final element of the 11-mile busway between El Monte and Los Angeles is dedicated as a total system today.

By 1978, the busway logs 20,000 daily passengers as well as 1,700 carpool vehicles taking advantage of the dedicated lane.

2007:  LACMTA reduces fares on Metro buses February 18-24 to 50 cents on 18 lines to encourage potential customers to sample those lines.

Selected by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Metro Service Planning and the Service Sectors, the 18 lines spread throughout Los Angeles County, reaching cities from San Pedro to La Canada.
