January 31: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

2006:  Arthur Winston, the longest serving transit employee in Los Angeles history, officially retires the day before his 100th birthday, after more than 72 years of service.

Winston began his employment with Los Angeles Railway, continuing his position leading service attendants through successor transit agencies until completing his career at Division 5 of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

On January 23, 2004, LACMTA renames Division 5 “Arthur Winston Division 5.”
