July 23: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

1923:  The first streetcar constructed in Los Angeles is now ready for installation of electrical and brake equipment.

The car is the first of 55 to be built in the agency’s South Park shops.  More information can be found in the July 23, 1923 issue of Los Angeles Railway’s Two Bells employee news magazine.

 

1994:  Operators for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority go on strike.  The work stoppage lasts until August 3.
