July 29: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

2000: Metro begins re-routing 17 bus lines serving downtown Los Angeles near the Staples Center because of the Democratic National Convention.

The lines, originating as far away as San Pedro, Highland Park, Malibu and El Monte, are rerouted to improve traffic flow and to accommodate temporary one-way arteries.
