May 24: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

2001:  The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors adopts a 6-mile, $760 million light-rail project as the “locally preferred alternative” for Los Angeles’ Gold Line Eastside Extension.

The project links the area to the Union Station transportation hub and serves one of the most densely populated and heavily transit-dependent areas of Los Angeles County.
