November 9: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

1988:  A “tunnel shield” is lowered into the Metro Rail subway construction area, two days after the digging machine is lowered into the excavation pit near Union Station.

 

1989:  The Southern California Rapid Transit District adopts a motion, on a 6-5 vote, to set up an “independent decision-making body” to oversee all transit rail design and construction in Los Angeles County.  The motion calls for SCRTD Board Members to meet with Los Angeles County Transportation Commission representatives as outlined in the eight-point agreement reached between the two agencies in December 1988.
