2009: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger joins federal, state and local officials, as well as a statewide coalition of transportation, labor, environmental groups, and others at a news conference at Union Station to announce California’s request for more than $4.7 billion in federal stimulus funding for engineering, design and construction of the state’s high-speed train system.
This is part of a nearly$10 billion investment when state, local and private matching funds are added. The Governor submits the state of California’s application for a share of the $8 billion set aside for high-speed train development under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
