September 13: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

1984:  The City of Los Angeles commits an initial $34 million towards the construction cost of the first 4.4 mile segment of the Southern California Rapid Transit District’s Metro Rail (now Metro Red Line) project.

This step brings the project another step closer to a federal Full Funding Grant Agreement and the project’s September 29th, 1986 groundbreaking.
