September 24: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

2015:  The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority announces the substantial completion of construction of the 11.5-mile extension from eastern Pasadena to the Azusa/Glendora border.

With construction basically completed, the independent Construction Authority begins the process of handing over the project to Metro for pre-revenue testing and employee training.

The 28-mile Foothill Extension follows a freight railroad right-of-way, and includes stations in Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte, Irwindale, and Azusa, It features a rail car maintenance facility in Monrovia, two dozen bridges, 14 at-grade crossings, as well as station parking lots and garages.
