May 16: This Date in Los Angeles Transportation History

1990:  California Governor George Deukmejian signs Assembly Bill 1784 into law, laying the groundwork for the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission and the Southern California Rapid Transit District to merge.

The legislation, sponsored by Assemblyman Richard Katz, is intended to provide direction and structure for transportation planning in Los Angeles County in the 21st century.
